The second meeting of the national network was dedicated to the topic of ‘Knowledge transfer from ecosystem services, natural capital and biodiversity research for decision-making in the public sector’ and brought together about 25 participants from September 18-19, 2025, at the Leibnizhaus at LUH. The participants included representatives from various research institutions (in addition to LUH, these included IÖR Dresden, ZALF Müncheberg, IZT Berlin and UFZ Leipzig), public authorities such as BfN, UBA, the Hamburg Environmental Authority, Hamburg Port Authority, Alfred Toepfer Academy for Nature Conservation and DESTATIS), and NGOs such as the Rewilding Europe Initiative and TransparenTree Hannover. The meeting was organised under the leadership of the EU Horizon project SELINA, which is coordinated at LUH. Inge Liekens from SELINA project partner VITO (Belgium) informed participants about comparable developments in national ‘Communities of Practice’ in other European countries. PhyGeo was represented by Benjamin Burkhard, Sabine Lange, Joana Seguin, Emily Bank and Angie Faust. The next meeting of the network is planned for next year and will focus on decision-making in the private sector.
