Twelve researchers from the Geochemistry and Petrology research groups at the Institute of Earth System Sciences presented their latest research findings at the EGU General Assembly 2026 (EGU26) in Vienna. From 3 to 8 May 2026, more than 20,000 scientists from 107 countries and a wide range of geoscientific disciplines gathered at the conference, which is considered the largest and most important geoscience meeting in Europe.

With two dedicated sessions, eight poster presentations, and four scientific talks, our researchers provided insights into their work in the fields of metal ore deposits, habitat development across different geological eras, and experimental petrology, while also engaging in intensive exchange with international colleagues. In addition, the conference offered numerous opportunities for scientific networking. A particular highlight was a sampling campaign at Lake Neusiedl as part of the ongoing research activities of the Geochemistry research group.
