From 27 to 31 October 2025, the sixth thematic Workshop of the EU joint project SELINA, coordinated by PhyGeo, took place in Trento, Italy. A total of 85 people from all EU member states, Switzerland, Israel, the United Kingdom and Norway took part in the meeting, which focused on the topic of ‘Evidence-based decision-making in the public sector’. The main focus was on knowledge transfer at the science-public decision-making interfaces, for instance within the frame of the 15 SELINA Demonstration Projects. The event ended with a day excursion to the Renon plateau in South Tyrol. The organisers of the event at the University of Trento placed great emphasis on sustainability, which was certified by the Eco-Eventi label of the Provincial Agency for Environmental Protection. This also included largely environmentally friendly travel to the event. Four-fifths of the PhyGeo delegation, consisting of Joana Seguin, Emily Bank, Sabine Lange, Luke Brander and Benjamin Burkhard, travelled by night train from Hannover and Amsterdam, which was recognised with an award. The next project meeting will take place at the end of June 2026 in Galway, Ireland, and will focus on the topic of ‘Evidence-based decision-making in the private sector’.
