From 29 June to 2 July 2026, the seventh thematic Workshop of the EU collaborative project SELINA, coordinated by the Physical Geography, took place in Galway on the west coast of Ireland. The main focus of the meeting was on ‘Evidence-based decision-making in the private sector’, with the aim of integrating scientific findings from research on biodiversity, ecosystems and their services into business decisions. A total of 65 people from various EU Member States, Israel, the United Kingdom and Norway took part. The event included a half-day field trip to the Ballydangan moor to experience first-hand the extensive restoration measures being carried out there to protect the red grouse. The PhyGeo delegation consisted of Joana Seguin, Emily Bank, Sabine Lange, Luke Brander, Angie Faust and Benjamin Burkhard. The next project meeting will take place at the end of September 2026 in Riga, Latvia, and will focus on ‘Evidence-based decision-making in integrated public and private sectors’.
