Mission statement: IESW

The IESW - Institute for Earth System Sciences - performs research and teaching on the consequences and identification of solution strategies: in dealing with global environmental change and climate change, growing demand for resources, land use change, the impairment and destruction of natural ecosystems and the associated increasing vulnerability of our society. The Earth is considered as a system of interacting physical, chemical, biological and anthropogenic processes on different temporal and spatial scales.

geo-related institutions

The scientific and technical staff at our institute works intensely with other national and international institutes from different environmental and landscape-research fields in order to provide benefits for both research and teaching. Through our numerous collaborations with governmental and private institutions, we have been able to establish effective synergies between academic theory and hands-on practice.
